2017 Toyota FJ Cruiser Redesign - 2017 Toyota FJ Cruiser SUV is vaguely reminiscent of the original FJ40 Land Cruiser that helped build the company's reputation for rugged durability of about half a century ago. While it certainly looks more recently, it has made a genuine direct feel, without the fancy trimmings excess or frills - just the ability to go almost anywhere. Some possible lines against the Jeep Wrangler, but there are significant differences. FJ is not removable roof and clear FJ finished to a higher level than the Jeep is clearly more utilitarian.

2017 Toyota FJ Cruiser Redesign - Design

Toyota FJ Cruiser is a mid-size SUV that has a dynamic design also some of the most impressive off-road capabilitys in the Toyota range. It was offered from 2007 through 2017 model year, and compete with the Nissan Xterra and Jeep Wrangler with a simple, bare bones of its interior design.

With exterior retro inspired in part by 1960s-era Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser, crossed the cue modern of new Toyota sport-utility vehicles-and the strange design which involves small rear-hinged rear doors-FJ Cruiser makes rugged yet fashionable statement for those who want to take to the road and look good in the process.

Under the striking Exterior is a true bone, modern SUV. With most of the basics along with the previous generation (pre-2010) Toyota 4Runner, FJ Cruiser wrap makes V-6 engine 4.0-liter 239 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, along with a sturdy off-road-oriented drive systems four-wheel drive, which includes a variety of low. Helping 4WD system is a set of electronic tools that add finesse, control wheelspin and helps distribute torque-altogether-called A-TRAC. Thanks to a lot of ground clearance the FJ can ford up to 27.5 inches of water, and approach and departure angles allow large-stone precarious scramble without damage.

2017 Toyota FJ Cruiser Redesign - Engine

Previously, we only tested the FJ with a six-speed manual transmission and placed third out of four in the hard-core SUV Death Valley comparative tests. We commend the FJ's off-road capability, including 9.6 inches of ground clearance and some of the best approach and departure angles in this segment. But then, as now, it was not enough to have meat on the road cut it as an everyday vehicle.

Driving the FJ Cuiser is much like piloting a boat. The 4.0-liter V-6 with 239 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque does a good job to move the 4,338-pound ute, but carry out dynamic maneuvers is a different story altogether. Tall, boxy shape FJ combined with suspension-compliant off-road soft and large tires led to a significant body roll, which is reflected in poor grip of 0.70 g skidpad. Get gas, and well-spaced ratio five-speed automatic that allows hustle to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds. When the throttle pegged, FJ front is lifted as it tries to plane on the water; braked making a dive like a submarine, with a stop from 70 mph taking 190 ft real estate. Given the size and shape of the wind-catching, our test average of 17 mpg is not too bad, sitting between 16 mpg city / 20 mpg highway EPA ratings.
Visibility of the FJ is also cause for concern. Slim, vertical side mirrors create a strong lateral visibility, and the giant C-pillars and short window to make a big blind spot check is almost impossible. We strongly recommend choosing to $ 2,175 Convenience package that offers keyless entry, cruise control, electric mirrors, tinted glass, rear wiper, and-most importantly-backup camera.
